Hello, My name is Denise Balestri and I am beginning my 15th year as a preschool teacher at Old St. Mary's. I have been blessed to have been a part of so many children's first experience in education as they passed through the "Caterpillar Room!" Through the years it has been so fulfilling to watch the children grow; however, the real reward for me is when they return as young adults and are excited to share all of their accomplishments! I was born and raised in Chicago (actually 2 miles from OSM) and am married with two grown sons. Growing up here enabled me to attend Old St. Mary's Church when I was young and since then have reconnected with old families that now are here! OSM's founder, Barbara Smith, taught my children when they were young and because of all of this history, Old St. Mary's holds a special place in my heart! Old St. Mary's is a "family" and I look forward to welcoming and teaching the new incoming children of our Catholic family!

Hello, My name is Mrs. Mariann and Reilly and this is my fifth year at Old Saint Mary's School and I'm happy to join the Caterpillar Classroom. Before joining OSM, I was an Early Childhood educator at Saint Joseph School in Homewood until, sadly, it was closed. I was so thrilled to find a new "home" at OSM and have enjoyed teaching with our amazing preschool team. I was born and raised in Homewood and I grew up in the house my grandfather built when the family moved to Homewood in 1920. I am one of eight children and was surrounded by many cousins throughout my childhood. My husband, Bob and I, moved next door to the family house and have raised two wonderful daughters. OSM has been a loving community from the day I joined the faculty. The families are fantastic to work with and watching the children grow each year brings me great joy. Each year I look forward to the beginning of school and welcoming a new group of children into our preschool program.

When I started at OSM I was even a registered "Wilderness First Responder" but I don't need that certification in the city!

Saludos, I am so excited to join the OSM faculty this year! I will be teaching 7th and 8th grade Spanish. My career in teaching began many years ago. I taught middle school Spanish for seven years, and fourteen years in high school for Columbia Public Schools in Columbia, MO. As a native Spanish speaker and as an experienced teacher, I will be able to share with students a rich academic and cultural Spanish program. I look forward to a new and exciting year!

Hi Everyone! I have taught visual art at Old St. Mary’s for two years, and I am excited to say that this will be my third year teaching here at OSM! I graduated from Miami University (Ohio) in 2015 and have been teaching here since. Although born in the suburbs of Chicago I grew up overseas in Hong Kong. Living there for 19 years has helped me explore my interest in learning about art all around the world. I look forward to exploring our creativity in the art room this year!
