I am privileged to serve the OSM community as the school principal and this year, teaching 6th grade religion on the middle school team. I am originally from DeKalb where my father was an NIU music professor and my mother a realtor. I taught high school and middle school social studies before becoming the Principal at York High School in Elmhurst. Before joining the education field, I worked in Springfield as a lobbyist for the Illinois Nurses Association and then for the IL Attorney General. The OSM Knights call me 'Ms. Smith', but my favorite title is "Grandma D" to Barrett (Bear), Collett (Coco), and Hannah D.

My name is Andrew Ramker, and I go by Mr. Ramker or Coach Ramker to many of our students and families. I have worked here at Old St. Mary's since 2015. I've taught PE almost all of that time, in addition to serving as the Athletic Director for most of those years. This is my first year as an Assistant Principal and I will continue to serve as the Athletic Director. I'm excited to move into this role and continue my job of providing our students with a safe environment to learn and grow both in the classroom and outside of it. I feel very fortunate to be able to share my passion of athletics with our students. I am proud Indiana University alum and was born and raised a Hoosier just over the state line in Hammond, IN. I love all sports but really enjoy spending time on the golf course or watching the Bears and Hoosiers play. I look forward to meeting everyone soon!

Mike Masterton.jpg

Hi there! My name is Michael Masterton but here at OSM, the students know me as Mr. M. I've been with Old St. Mary's since 2020 and I am a School Counselor here. My office is on the 3rd floor with middle school, but I like to be everywhere in the school. I am a proud son of a longtime 2nd grade teacher and have 2 older brothers, both of which have blessed me with some fantastic nieces. Family is extremely important to me. I grew up in Arlington Heights and have loved being in Chicago. You can find me at Guaranteed Rate Field cheering on my beloved White Sox, or if I'm at home, I'm watching The Office for the 20th time through. I like to encourage everyone I meet and work with to be where their feet are, enjoy life, and remember that it's okay to not be okay, too!

Hello OSM Families! My name is Mara Pollard and I am thrilled to join the Student Services Department as a School Counselor! My pronouns are She/Her. You will often find me on the third floor in the Student Services Office. I grew up in Glenview, where my family still resides. I currently live in Chicago just 15 minutes North of OSM. I graduated in 2020 from DePaul with my Masters in School Counseling and recently earned my credentials to be a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). Last year, I was a school counselor for four schools in the Archdiocese, as well as one Lutheran school serving Title 1 eligible students. I counseled students Kindergarten through 12th grade, truly enjoying the opportunity to work with such a variety of ages and student needs. Some of my favorite things include cooking, playing tennis, walking along Lake Michigan, and playing board/card games. What I am most excited for this school year is being able to support your child’s social/emotional, academic, and post-secondary goals/needs. Please know your child’s mental, physical, and emotional well-being are my top priority. I look forward to working with you all!

I’ve worked with students from 3 years old all the way up to 18 years old. Last year, the first students I worked with started college as first generation college students and it was overwhelming getting to see them achieve their goals and potential. Abbey Laird.jpg

My name is Abbey Laird and I go by Miss Laird to our students. My pronouns are She/Her. I just started at Old St. Mary's this 21-22 school year as an Administrative Assistant and the Enrollment Director; you'll frequently see me in the front office or roaming the school. I'm originally from Seattle and just moved to Logan Square from Iowa City. I graduated from the University of Iowa in May with a dual degree in English & Creative Writing and Cinema. I'm hoping to get to spend some time in the classroom with your students, helping them foster a love for creative writing. I'm so excited for this great opportunity to work with your kids and get to know the Old St. Mary's community!

I’m excited to be back at Old St Mary’s for a third year as the Performing Arts Coordinator and in my new role as Extended Day Coordinator and teacher! In the Spring of 2019 I retired from 31 years  of public school teaching after working primarily in two school districts.  I was the high school band director and district coordinator for instrumental music in Westmont, IL for 18 years and then a band director and Performing Arts Division Chair for 11 years at York High School in Elmhurst, IL (where I had the pleasure of working for Diana Smith, our OSM principal).

I have been  an active professional musician my entire adult life and currently still play both jazz gigs as pianist and a drummer in a polka band (with several of my former students)!  I currently live in Elmhurst with my wife, Jenny, and we have three adult children who all benefited greatly by participating in strong performing art programs (dance, band, and choir respectively) when they were younger and in school.  I have always strongly believed in students having the opportunity to discover and develop their creativity through opportunities in the arts, and I am so excited to be part of a team at OSM that values that goal.
