Summer Camps 2022

Old St. Mary’s School is excited to offer a wide variety of in-person summer camps in June and July for new and current OSM Families. With weekly activities, academic and creative workshops, and sports camps, the options are endless to have a great summer! Please see below for a list of camps, their descriptions, and when they are being offered.

Camps are available for Rising PK 4 - 8th Grade Students. Rising PK 3 Students may participate in summer camps as long as they have an older sibling enrolled at OSM.

Camp Details

  • Camps are held in-person at Old St. Mary's School.

  • Camp sessions are four days a week, Monday - Thursday. 

  • Camp sessions are broken up into two sessions with a 1 hour break for lunch in between. The Morning Session is from 8:30am - 11:30am and the Afternoon Session is from 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm.

  • Students may stay for both sessions (Morning and Afternoon) or participate in just one (Morning or Afternoon). 

  • Weekly session costs are $300 if staying for both sessions and $150 if participating in one session.

  • Students should bring a water bottle with them every day and a lunch if participating in both sessions. 

  • All students will be dropped off and picked up at the main entrance of the school.

  • Hats and sunscreen are also recommended for recess time.

Weekly Summer Camps

For Rising PK4 - 5th Grade Students
(Rising PK3 Students may attend if they have an older sibling enrolled at OSM)

Campers will be immersed in a day of fun through crafts, activities, and academic lessons. Campers will be broken up into groups based on their grade levels with a well-balanced and engaging curriculum each week. Each week will offer new adventures and summer activities. Campers may register for a morning session, afternoon session, or both sessions for a full day of fun.

Summer Workshops

Creative Writing: Poetry and Fiction

In these two week-long courses, students will engage in writing prompts, workshop circles, and read a variety of poetry and short fiction as inspiration for their own pieces that they will create throughout the week. Culminating in a portfolio and publication party, this course will use a variety of source texts and be student-driven.The week of Monday, June 25th will be focused on Poetry, and the week of Monday, July 4th will be focused on Fiction. Students can choose to take either or both courses as all works will be featured at the final publication party.

Into the Wood Jr Musical Theatre Workshop  

Using minimal props, costumes, and sets, students will bring a show to life in just two weeks using the power of musical theatre! Be careful what you wish for, as Stephen Sondheim’s and James Lapine’s cockeyed fairytale comes to life in this adaptation of their groundbreaking, Tony Award-winning musical.  Into the Woods JR. features all of your favorite characters — Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack (and his beanstalk) and the Witch — in this lyrically rich retelling of classic Brothers Grimm fables.

Godspell Jr Musical Theatre Workshop  

Using minimal props, costumes, and sets, students will bring a show to life in just two weeks using the power of musical theatre! The original Godspell was the first major musical theatre offering from three-time Grammy and Academy Award-winner, Stephen Schwartz, and it took the world by storm. A group of disciples help Jesus Christ tell different parables by using a wide variety of games, storytelling techniques and a hefty dose of comic timing. An eclectic blend of songs, ranging in style from pop to vaudeville, are employed as the story of Jesus' life dances across the stage. Dissolving hauntingly into the Last Supper and the Crucifixion, Jesus' messages of kindness, tolerance and love come vibrantly to life.

The Art Of Animation

Let’s dive into a colorful world! In the process of Animation, Students will get to see the evolution of animation. We will watch a collection of animated films and shorts throughout the years of animation history! Seeing all forms of animation from classic Disney films to rubber hose animation, classic American animation, stop motion, anime, and live-action CGI. We will draw our own cartoon characters and focus on various techniques to tell stories. 

 

The main project will be drawing characters that the students make, having them say hello, and having them dance!

Filmmaking

We will focus on Cinema Arts. Giving the students an opportunity to be creative. We will take a look at our favorite movies and get a deeper look at the behind-the-scenes as to how the films were made. I will teach the basics of digital film production, as we look at a variety of film techniques and learn the backbone of the film industry. We will write out scripts, draw out storyboards, and learn the fundamentals of cinematography to film our stories. Filmmaking provides a great opportunity for students to come out of their shells, work together, and collaborate.

Non-OSM Summer Camps

DePaul University's Education & Counseling Center is excited to announce our 2022 Summer Programs! Students K-12 are welcome to join this summer.

 

Movie Mondays:

  • This program is free

  • Program will be Monday's July 8-Aug 8 11am-2pm

  • This is like a book club, but for movies!

    • We will have fun movies the kids will enjoy that also provoke meaningful conversations 

  • Snacks will be provided and chosen based on movie theme

  • Movies will be picked for grades 1st through 3rd 

  • A fun program that promotes lesson learning, creating relationships, and eating yummy food!

Reading Program:

  • This program is free

  • Every Tues/Thurs for K-5th and Mon/Wed for 6th-12th

  • July 11-Aug 12 10-12pm

    • Students will have the opportunity to work on reading and literacy skills with DePaul University graduate students

  • 2 programs: K-5th and 6-12th grade

  • At Home Component: A reading log that students will log the number of days they have read

    • Prizes will be given at different benchmarks! 

  • Activity log given to students to keep busy at home! Prizes will also be given 

InSTEM Virtual Summer Camp:

  • Get a head start and learn about STEM related fields with educational and interactive experiences July 18-July 29th

  • Rising 6-8th graders, girls only

    • 6th grade: Solar Car Building

    • 7th grade: Robotics

    • 8th grade: Coding

  • Monday-Thursday virtually!

Harry Potter Camp:

  • A week-long program for 3rd-8th graders Aug 8-Aug 12

  • For the week, it costs each student $200 for the magic supplies

  • This is a fun camp that is filled with wizarding activities such as house sorting, herbology, potion-making, and more magical experiences!
